Job description

You will be part of the cQASM tooling team. The main goal of this team is to develop the next iteration of the common quantum assembly language (cQASM) and accompanying tools which lie at the heart of our full-stack quantum computer - Quantum Inspire. These tools encompass a parser, compiler and simulator to be used in the next generation quantum computers.

You will also be linked to the Feld Group at the department of Quantum & Computer Engineering, which will give you the opportunity to collaborate on cutting-edge projects, working hand in hand with researchers. Your office will be in the faculty of Electrical Engineering, Mathematics and Computer Science building on campus. This will enable idea sharing and collaboration while independently contributing to separate projects.

Your daily responsibilities will be:

  • Designing and implementing a coherent tooling system, consisting of several components, for processing quantum algorithms, tailored to meet user needs.
  • Developing and testing tooling software, ensuring quality through unit and integration testing.
  • Collaborating in a team with an agile/scrum development strategy.
  • Engaging in projects with PhD/MSc students, with potential involvement in scientific publications.

Requirements

We are looking for a software engineer with a Master's Degree and ideally a PhD thinking level in applied mathematics or physics. For this role an extensive experience in C++ and Python-based software development (minimum 3-5 years) is a must.

Additional skills we seek include:

  • Experience in designing and developing production-grade software.
  • Proficient understanding of quantum computing fundamentals, such as qubit state, quantum gates, circuit model, and quantum computer architecture.
  • Knowledge of general concepts regarding the processing of programming languages, e.g., language parsers, ASTs, and compilers.
  • Experience with programming environments on Unix/Linux, including macOS.
  • Experience with CI/CD, using GitHub. Knowledge of Docker and GitHub actions is an advantage as well as Experience working in agile/scrum development settings.

On top of skills, we are also looking for and independent and a hands-on software engineer who thrives in collaborative environments and enjoys working effectively with both software engineers and researchers.

Conditions of employment

  • A Duration of contract of 12 months with prospect for extension.
  • A job of 32 to 38 hours per week.
  • A salary based on scale 11 of the CAO for Dutch Universities with a minimum of [€4332] and a maximum of [€5929] gross per month based on a fulltime contract (38 hours), plus 8% holiday allowance and an end-of-year bonus of 8.3%.
